If your flight leaves Bristol at 6 a.m., a night near the airport is a genuinely good idea — the A38 at half past three in the morning is nobody's idea of a holiday. The packages sold around that need are worth understanding before you book one.
What a park-and-stay package bundles
The typical deal is one night at a hotel near the airport plus parking for the duration of your trip, with a shuttle bus between the two. The hotel is rarely at the terminal: Bristol Airport sits in open North Somerset countryside 8 miles south-west of the city, so "near the airport" can mean anything from the A38 itself to the edge of Bristol.
Read what the shuttle actually is. Some hotels run their own minibus on a fixed timetable, others put you on a long-stay car park shuttle, and a few charge per person each way. On an early departure, the time of the first shuttle of the morning matters more than the room does.
What the package does not include
It does not include getting to the hotel. If you are coming from Bath, Cardiff, Taunton or Gloucester you still drive that leg twice — once at the start of your holiday and once at the end of it, the second time straight off a flight.
It also assumes you want your car at the airport for the whole trip. If you do not, you are paying for parking to solve a problem you could have skipped.
